FAQ

  • What is a yarn base?
    A 'yarn base' is the type of fiber, weight, and ply (e.g. Merino, DK, 4 ply) independent of any color.
  • Is your yarn ethically sourced?
    Yes. The natural fibres we use are environmentally friendly, renewable, carbon neutral and biodegradable. Fibres are sourced from South America from a non-profit that aims to employ, train, and equip women from rural communities in Uruguay *in* their areas so they aren't forced to work away from their families to gain an income. The wool is mulesing free.
  • What type of packaging to you use, and is it environmentally friendly?
    Our skeins are shipped using minimal packaging. A small, card label is used to wrap the skeins to identify the base/colorway, and shipping envelopes are plastic, to protect the contents in transit. All card and paper in our shipments are fully recyclable, and plastic shipping bags can now be recycled at most recycling centers. Orders may also ship using an organza bag to keep your order together. This can be reused for a number of purposes.
  • My order arrived and the skeins look slightly different. Is this normal?
    Yes. All our yarns are hand-dyed. While every effort is made to make the skeins as uniform as possible, there will always be some slight variation. For this reason, we strongly recommend that if you have a project that needs multiple skeins, that you purchase enough to complete the project on the same order, since they will be dyed at the same time.
  • Do you custom dye orders for skeins?
    Yes, I custom dye for specific yarn colorways and also do custom orders for larger quantities of a specific colorway. Custom orders are a minimum order of 4 skeins.
  • Do you take commissions for custom-made crochet items?
    Yes. I can do commissions for items like shawls, scarves, fingerless gloves or hats in my available colorways and for some special gradient colorways. I generally work from three specific patterns that you can choose from. If there are many orders, your order may take up to a month to be completed depending on where you are in the line-up. Please contact me for more information. Custom orders must be requested and approved before they will be undertaken. Custom orders require payment if full before your order is started. A limited number of orders may be completed per calendar month, but this is subject to change without notice. If for any reason your project cannot be completed, you will be refunded in full.
  • Can I use or copy pictures from your site ?
    Sorry, but not without express permission. All images on the website are copyright Republic of Yarnia. If you would like to use any images from the website, please reach out via the Contact Us form with specific details of what pictures and the the reason for use. We are more than happy for you to share our images across our social media in line with their guidelines, but for any personal or commercial use, you must request permission.
  • What is your FULL SHIPPING POLICY?
    We offer two shipping options to our customers: Standard Shipping, which is untracked, and Tracked Shipping, which is fully tracked. Items are shipped from Ireland using An Post, and then transferred to the postal service in the recipient country. In the event that orders are lost in transit, we can provide copies of the order shipping labels and proof of postage. Republic of Yarnia will consider a parcel lost if not received 45 days after the initial date sent. If a refund is requested for a lost parcel, this will be issued 45 days after initial date sent or after the conclusion of any investigation by the recipient's postal service - whichever date is later. For Tracked Shipping (tracked) orders, if an item is confirmed shipped and has left Irish jurisdiction, and is lost in transit, Republic of Yarnia will replace your order free of charge or issue a full refund. For Standard Shipping (untracked) orders, if an item is confirmed posted with An Post (Irish Postal Service), Republic of Yarnia will not replace the order free of charge. Customers who wish to have any items replaced must place a new order and will be charged accordingly as a new purchase, including shipping fees. Republic of Yarnia will refund customers a maximum of 20% of the value of items ordered from the lost order, excluding shipping fees. ​ If a parcel is suspected lost, customers may contact Republic of Yarnia to obtain any tracking details, should they be required, and we will provide any relevant shipping information to the customer. ​ In the event of a suspected lost parcel, it is the customer's responsibility to contact the postal service in their own country to raise any appropriate investigation using the means outlined by their respective postal services. ​ Customers are responsible for providing correct shipping addresses, and in the event of incorrect address details provided by the customer, Republic of Yarnia is not responsible for lost, or mis-shipped orders. Refunds will not be provided in such cases. If Republic of Yarnia is responsible for incorrect address details, we will replace your order free of charge to the correct address. ​ Christmas / Holiday Season: For guaranteed delivery by 25 December, Republic of Yarnia recommends choosing Tracked Shipping method and orders must be placed by 1 December in order to meet An Post (Irish Postal Service) shipping deadlines for International delivery.
  • Where do you ship to?
    We ship globally. With the exception of a few locations, we can ship your order to almost every country. Please note that shipments to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii may experience longer shipping times. We always recommend using the Tracked Shipping service.
  • What shipping method do you use?
    We offer 2 shipping options - Standard and Tracked Shipping. All items are sent using An Post (the Irish National Postal Service). Standard Shipping is untracked. When items are posted, you will be notified by email that it has been sent, but no tracking number will be provided. Tracked Shipping is available for an additional cost. When items are sent using Tracked Shipping, you will be notified by email and receive a link with tracking details. Republic of Yarnia always recommends using tracked shipping. PLEASE NOTE: Standard shipping orders, if lost in transit, are not eligible for free replacements or refunds of shipping fees. If a Standard Shipping order is deemed lost in transit, Republic of Yarnia will refund a maximum of 20% of the value of the items ordered, excluding shipping fees. Tracked Shipping orders, if lost in transit, are eligible for free replacement or full refund. Please see our full shipping policy (in the FAQ section) for our our complete policy details. All shipping is calculated based on order weight and cost only covers postage. We make no profit from shipping.
  • Will there be a Customs charge for my order?
    Customs charges will depend on your country's guidelines and allowances, but customers are responsible for any customs or import duties, if applicable. Republic of Yarnia will make every effort to ensure correct info is provided about shipments to allow Customs processing to be as quick as possible.
  • How long will my order take to arrive?
    Your order will be started almost immediately after placing it, but note that each order typically takes 3 to 4 days to process before they are shipped. Once shipped, orders will take between 3 to 12 business days depending on where you are located and the shipping method selected. Orders placed by customers in Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii may experience slightly longer delivery times. If any unforeseen or extraordinary circumstances result in delayed posting, we will notify you as soon as possible.
  • What happens if my order doesn't arrive?
    We recommend choosing tracked postage. Orders not received after 45 days from the shipping date will be considered lost in transit. We can provide you with copies of the shipping label and proof of postage for any investigations made by the receiving country's postal service. If items do not arrive, the course of action will depend on which tracking option was selected. For Tracked Shipping items, tracking can be used by the recipient country's postal service to investigate and hopefully locate the parcel. If the parcel cannot be located or is deemed lost in transit, we can provide a replacement order free of charge, or provide a full refund, including shipping fees. Please note that Standard Shipping (untracked) items cannot be traced by the shipping service (An Post). We can provide you with the untracked shipping reference number, and proof of postage. Customers' own postal service may be able to provide information, but untracked items are not eligible for replacement or full refund. If a Standard Shipping item is deemed lost in transit, we will provide a maximum refund of no more than 20% of the value of the items ordered, excluding shipping fees. Any replacement must be placed as a new order, including shipping fees.   • What is your Return & Refund policy?
    All orders are custom dyed. Unfortunately, this means that orders are non-refundable and returns are not accepted. In the unlikely event of an issue with the yarn material itself, please contact us.
  • What is your Cancellation policy?
    Orders can be cancelled up to 1 hour after being placed. A cancellation request can be sent via the Contact Form on this site.
  • What payment methods do you accept?
    We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Pay Pal.
